Srinagar, July 2: Coming as a grim reminder of unethical medical practices, consultants at Maternity and Child Hospital Anantnag are allegedly manoeuvring their duty schedule by preparing self-made roster.
Credible sources told GNS that the physicians at MCH Sher Bagh Anantnag dodge duties with impunity while they seem accountable to no one.
Notwithstanding the requirements of patients, the physicians have chalked out a roster of their choice so as to ensure that they get at least four days off in a week, sources said.
According to sources, some well-known faces in the hospital, for the sake of attendance visit OPDs only one day a week. Even on these days, they leave in between to attend their private clinics, they said.
The B-Grade consultants who have day only and are supposed to remain present throughout the week also show their presence for only three days and take four days off.
The whole responsibility of this passes on the shoulders of juniors who have to handle the cases of serious nature and have been facing the brunt for their inexperience, sources said.
When contacted, Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr. Showkat Jeelani told GNS that he has taken notice of the issue and stringent measures are in the offing to avoid such lackadaisical approach from the staff.
“I have taken notice of the issue,” he said, adding that stringent measures are on cards to do away with such practices to improve overall healthcare in the hospital.
“I have directed the concerned hospital authorities to rectify the roster on an immediate basis,” the official said.
He said the consultants are to mandatorily remain present from 10 am to 4 pm for six days a week and that after 4 in the evening all consultants will be on call duty.
The official also said that only those consultants are entitled to off day who previously serve a full night duty.
“Accommodation is available to the consultants in the hospital even as they can put up at District Hospital Jawahar Mandi,” the official added
