Srinagar, July 18: The Congress is a rudderless and directionless ship. It appears. The Party have suffered extensive defeat in recent held Elections and seems at the Verge of devastation. This is taking a toll on the party’s functioning in various States, Particularly Jammu and Kashmir with infighting coming out in the open. In recent held election, the party could not win even one seat in as many as 18 states, including Jammu & Kashmir, and it could win only 3 seats from UP, Bihar and Bengal. UP returns 80 members to the Lok Sabha, Bihar 40 and Bengal 42. In other words, the Congress won a paltry 3 seats out of 162 seats in these 3 states.
In recent past, Ugly scenes were witnessed at Congress headquarters in Srinagar several second rung leaders entered into heated arguments with top brass over the functioning of the party and indiscipline within the ranks of Congress. Senior Leaders’ want Mir’s ouster and want New face to lead the Party. One of its Senior Leader from North Kashmir believed that, Mir is ineffient to handle the party. From the position of political inevitability to insignificance, Congress is relegating to the periphery of political canvas in Jammu and Kashmir thick and fast due to the incompetence of the state leadership and especially the incumbent President. The leader Warned that, If the central leadership fails to address the factionalism within its state unit and thinks out of the box to play the role of an imaginative and relevant opposition, Congress may soon lose its traditional political space to ruling BJP forever. The leader believed that the party leadership has gone into a coma. Nobody is here to hear the grievances. The party is grappling with number of issues due to the wrong decisions taken by the party high command.
The repeated utterances of Congress party high command of roping in young blood have failed to make any change on the ground where old horses are still ruling the roost and reluctant to give chance to emerging young leaders for upcoming elections. The nepotism has been ruining the party. The old horses are only interested for their personal gains and never interested for the welfare of public, so their ultimate goal is to get party ticket and after their own retirement ticket for their children, many other youth Congress leader were also willing to leave party due to monopoly of old horses.
There are many party leaders who have decided to join other parties after foreseeing trouble for the party in upcoming assembly polls. Rahul’s and Azad’s efforts to keep the flock together are not bearing fruit on the ground. The problem and crisis with in the party has reached to an extent that Congress office bearers at its Srinagar and Jammu headquarters are without their monthly salaries since past two months as no funds have come from Delhi. This reflects the party’s position at present and that future can be well foreseen. Though Azad is in Srinagar since last one week, so that party remains in focus at least in the upcoming Assembly polls and managed to bag at least 15 to 20 seats so that it becomes inevitable for other parties to forge an alliance with it, but the way things are shaping up in the party, party’s future seems to be very bleak.
Sources believed that recent visit of Azad was an indication of his return to state to lead the party in the assembly elections which according to them- would reinforce confidence among the leaders as well the party cadres. Sources added that Azad would be traveling to Srinagar again in coming days in follow up of his Sunday review meeting during which he would be meeting party leaders. Astonishing and worrible part for party is that Senior leader from North kashmir had skipped the Sunday meeting, indicating that everything was not fine in the camp. His absence who is loyalist of Azad in the meeting has come as a shock to many including Azad himself who has been striving hard to elevate him next state head of party.
Infighting within the party will only get worsen with each passing day and the rebellion will gain momentum in near future. If such a situation continues to remain, the day is not far when Party will be routed from the state forever.
