Srinagar, July 17: Residents of Wahibugh area in south-Kashmir’s Pulwama district Wednesday held strong protests against the district administration over the dumping of garbage in the area.
Reports reaching GNS said that the people in the area have been demanding to relocate the dumping site, which according to them has the potential to damage the quality of fruits.
A local while talking to GNS said that, the dumping site chosen by the administration lies adjacent to orchards which may damage the quality of our fruit. The locals said that they had already apprised the authorities about the growing apprehensions among the fruit-growers but no step was taken by them.”
Soon after the protestors swelled, governmental forces manning the road, resorted to cane charging and also fired pellets which resulted in injuries to two youths. The injured youth identified as Adil Ahmad and Mohammad Shafi was removed to District hospital Pulwama. The condition of both the injured are said to be stable.
