Honorarium for J&K Police SPOs increased

New Delhi, Aug 4: The honorarium paid to the Special Police Officers (SPOs) of the J&K Police was on Sunday increased in view of their role in the fight against militancy. The move is likely to benefit around 30,000 SPOs.

The J&K State Administrative Council (SAC), which is chaired by Governor Satya Pal Malik, approved the increase in the honorarium.

Now 10,821 SPOs who have completed 15 years in service will receive Rs 18,000 against Rs 12,000, while 5,132 SPOs who have completed 10 years will get Rs 15,000 against Rs 9,000.

As per the revised scale, 4,436 SPOs who have completed five years in service will now get Rs 12,000 against Rs 9,000. In case of 1,134 SPOs who have completed three years of service will now be paid Rs 9,000 against Rs 6,000.

There is no change in honorarium of 8,590 SPOs who are in the service for less than three years. They will continue to get Rs 6,000.

The decision has been taken in view of the important role being played by SPOs in counter-insurgency operations, guarding vital installations, maintaining law and order and helping in organising important events.

The honorarium was last time increased in October 2018. “It has been felt that SPOs need to be better compensated and the time gaps in increments should be reduced,” an official statement said.
