70 arrested, nearly 50 vehicles seized by police for defying Govt orders
Srinagar, Mar 30: Amid restrictions imposed by government and lockdown across India, at least 70 people were arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday after they were found violating the government orders under section 144 CrPc.
According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), strict restrictions were remained in place across the Union Territory today with authorities deploying large contingent of police and paramilitary troopers on the roads to enforce the restrictions and lockdown.
The restrictions were put in place in wake of deadly Coronavirus pandemic, which has so far claimed two lives in Jammu and Kashmir and infected over 40 people. Witnesses said that police and paramilitary troopers had erected concertina wire on the roads, thus thwarting the vehicular as well as pedestrians movement.
Officials said that nearly 70 persons were arrested from different parts of the Valley today for violating the government orders under section 144 CrPc.
In Srinagar district, police said that six shopkeepers were arrested after they had opened their shops, thus violating the government orders.
“Four shops were violating Govt orders in Batamaloo area. People had gathered at the shops for routine purchase. On seeing Police, the customers fled away. However six people who had opened their shops were apprehended on spot. They were accordingly booked under relevant provisions of law,” police said.
Police a case under FIR number 32, 33, 34 and 35/2020 under section 188, 269 IPC stands registered in Police Station Batmaloo against them.
In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, 13 persons were arrested, six vehicles were seized and five shops were sealed by authorities in Police Station DH Pora for violating government orders.
In this regard, a case under FIR number 26 and 27/2020 under section 188, 269 IPC stands registered in PS.
In Police station Devsar, seven violators were arrested and a case under FIR number 26/2020 under section 188, 269 IPC stands registered in PS.
In Awantipora, Police seized 23 vehicles and 14 bikes from different areas of Police District Awantipora for violating curfew orders.
15 vehicles and seven bikes were seized by Police Station Awantipora while six vehicles and two bikes were seized by Police Station Pampore and two vehicles and five bikes were seized by Police Station Khrew after they were found plying without the passes issued by the competent authorities.
Moreover, fourteen persons were arrested in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for violating the government orders. “A case under FIR number 57/2020 under section 188 IPC stands registered in Police Station Sopore against them,” police said.
In Handwara Police division, at least 30 persons were booked for violating Govt prohibitory orders in jurisdiction of PS Handwara and Vilgam.
Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 89/2020, 90/2020, 91/2020 under relevant sections of law were registered in Police Station Handwara against 17 persons and a case FIR number 18/2020 was registered against 13 persons at Police Station Vilgam who were defying Govt orders. Two vehicles have also been seized by PS Vilgam, police said
