Says files 29 FIRs, seal 27 shops, seize 124 vehicles

Jammu, March 23: Police in Jammu on Monday sealed 27 shops and seized 124 vehicles besides registering 29 FIRs for violating orders by the administration against assembly of more than three persons to prevent spread of coronavirus.

The administration had already imposed restrictions and appealed public as well as shopkeepers to obey the order and to co-operate with authorities in order to tackle COVID-19. However several shopkeepers and transporters in Jammu didn’t follow the instructions and opened shops as per their own will.

SSP Jammu Shridar Patil told GNS that 27 shops were sealed and 124 vehicles seized for violating the orders. The SSP said that 29 FIRs were registered against the violators.

The officer, however, appealed the general public to stay indoors, take precautionary measures, and cooperative with civil administration to tackle the coronavirus.

Government has issued slew of directions including restricting the assembly of people in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir where four positive cases, one in Kashmir and three in Jammu had been reported so far.
