Covid-19 lockdown: Shopian fruit growers demand relaxation for spraying

Shopian, March 24: The fruit growers in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have appealed the Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu and the district administration to give them relaxation for spraying of pesticides and use of fertilizers during the lockdown.

“While we appreciate the government’s initiative to impose lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19 virus, we just demand to be allowed to spray pesticides and use fertilizers as this is the season for doing so,” Abdul Raouf, an orchardist told GNS.

He said spraying is necessary to prevent the plants from various diseases and to have a good yield.

“If we fail to do it this time, we will face huge losses in this already struggling sector,” he said.

“Our income is wholly and solely dependent upon this. We will use fully protective gears and will take all other measures required to maintain social distance,” the orchardists said
