Srinagar, 19 March: Awami Itehad Party today in a statement came down heavily on the current administration regarding their failure vis-a-vis tackling the growing corona virus scare. It is detestable how despite clear guidelines of Union health ministry tremendous loopholes are there in screening mechanisms at Airport and various road, railway entry points into Kashmir. Just a few days back it was widely reported how some drivers were taking alternate routes on the highway to avoid the necessary checks to identify potential cases. Despite repeated appeals and requests by people across the board including political parties it seems the Current government is still following the age old callous approach and not backing up their claims with credible action on ground. When schools, restaurants, parks, shopping centres have been completely shut, how is that people from outside Kashmir even those having symptoms of the virus are not being properly screened? Kashmir till very recently did not have a single positive case for Covid-19, all they had to do was to ensure people coming from outside were properly screened and yet they failed, said Party Spokesperson Sheeban Ashai. Expressing his disgust over the abject failure of the current Government, he pointed out how the healthcare infrastructure in Kashmir was in no way at par with any major metropolitan city in India and how such kind of negligence could prove disastrous for Kashmiris. At a time when even first world countries are struggling to cope with the Virus, it is responsibility of present day Government to understand gravitas of the problem and ensure that no spread of Corona Virus takes place in Kashmir at any sort. We appeal the people at large also to take care of themselves, not crowd hospitals, cooperate with medical fraternity and refrain from unnecessarily venturing out. AIP urged the Government to realise seriousness of the issue and ensure Health ministry guidelines are followed in letter and spirit. Moreover the party demanded that stringent action must be initiated against those responsible for grave lapses in screening people coming into Kashmir from outside. The Government must also make it binding on everyone who has most likely come in contact with the confirmed Corona virus case to get themselves checked at the nearest facility immediately, without any delay.
