Medical shops raided for selling masks, hand sanitizers at high price

Poonch, Mar 17: Authorities on Tuesday raided dozens of medical shops in Mendhar and Balakote while acting on the complaints that several outlets were selling masks and hand sanitizers at exorbitant prices given the soaring demand of these items due to coronavirus outbreak.

On complaints from public, a special team headed by Block Medical Officer Mendhar (BMO) Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan which included Naib Tehasildar Ashfaq Ahmad Fani, SHO Tahir Yousuf Khan, TSO Mendhar Bharat Bushan, TSO Balakote Abdual Kabir Khan, and others raided over a dozen drug shops and seized items which were sold at much higher prices.

“Though we have not come across any fake unit making these items in Mendhar Town, but we have seized about 30 bottles of sanitizers from storage place which we suspect to be fake,” BMO Mendhar told GNS. “We have sent the bottles to lab for tests to check if they are safe to use.”

The BMO said that a fine of Rs 2300 was imposed in Mendhar and Rs 1300 in Balakote.
