Kupwara, Mar 7: Ophthalmology Unit of Kupwara Hospital here in North Kashmir is without an eye surgeon as a result patients are facing immense hardships.
Locals told Kashmir News Trust that Ophthalmology Unit of Kupwara Hospital was considered as the best performing Units of the Valley. As more than 450 minor and major eye surgeries were performed in the said hospital mostly cataract surgeries which is very costly at private sector.
The only eye-surgeon posted in the Unit was transferred to Gurez after the intervention of a politician in 2017. Civil Society Kupwara tried their best to retain that eye-surgeon, but failed in their endeavor. “Since 2017, the Ophthalmology Unit of Kupwara Hospital is without any eye-surgeon. Despite repeated pleas to Directorate of Health Services, no doctor has been deputed in the hospital,” said a civil society member seeking intervention of Lieutenant Governor. (KNT)
