Reports of VIP passengers not following set protocol at airport, deplorable- AIP

Srinagar, 20 March: Reacting sharply to numerous incidents of VIP travellers skipping the necessary checks at airport for Corona Virus, Awami Itehad Party condemned the manner in which some blue eyed people are being allowed to misuse their clout, jeopardising the lives of lakhs of Kashmiris.

At a time when entire Kashmir is under lockdown reports of such incidents not only portray the current administration in bad light but also pose serious threat to lives of common Kashmiris.

What has happened thanks to the Khanyar incident where inspite of sending the traveller to a quarantine facility, due to pressure allegedly exerted by the family, home quarantine was allowed and now doctors had to roam from door to door in Khanyar, all because some VIP did not agree to abide by the rules.

Similarly the incident reported widely, yesterday two students from Bangladesh have been alleged to have skipped the quarantine and had been taken out of the airport from an alternate exit. The party has a number of times since February asked the authorities to follow guidelines in letter and spirit.

In fact this practice of quaranteening every passenger having recent history of travel abroad should have been adopted right from the very first day. Welcoming the efforts of medical fraternity, party hailed how round the clock efforts of doctors have inspired confidence in Kashmiris across the Valley in such testing times.

Closing down of schools, markets and parks in view of growing Covid-19 scare was a necessary step that was required, keeping in view safety of people at large and everyone must fully co-operate with the authorities urged party spokesperson Sheeban Ashai.

The Government at this point must also ensure availability of all essential commodities in all districts across Jammu and Kashmir.
