Srinagar, Mar 7: In a horrific incident, three members of a family were burnt to death in a pre-dawn fire incident at their house in old Srinagar city.
Police officials’ initial investigations indicate that the fire was triggered by short-circuiting. They said the fire was so intense that the sleeping family members could not find their way out of the house to evade the raging flames. Local residents spotted smoke rising from the building and broke open the door to rescue four members of the family, however, they managed to rescue only an 8 year old girl Soheda.
The incident occurred at Sheeshgari Mohalla of Khanyar area of Srinagar city. The deceased were identified as Javaid Ali Hakak Hakak, his wife Sofiya Javaid and their daughter Hafsa. Officials from police and civil administration arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the matter.
District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdary who rushed to spot told Kashmir News Trust that and announced Rs 15 lakh compensation in favour of lone surviving 8 year old daughter. He said that the government will also bear education and the other expenses of the girl.
