TRAL: Locals in Pinglish village of Tral have jointly sanitized the filthy water canal, which was in pathetic state, as the piles of garbage were accumulated in it for long time.

A delegation of locals have said that keeping in view the bad condition of water canal, they had brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities many times and asked them to launch cleanliness drive, but ‘nothing’ was done.

“We requested concerned authorities to look into the matter and ensure cleanliness drive in the area but they turned blind eye towards the matter, due to which canal turned dilapidated day by day,” they said.

In this connection, a group of locals decided to sanitize the canal by their own and managed to do it after they unanimously deposited the money to utilize it for the cleaning purpose of said canal.

“With the help of machineries (JCB & tractor) along with men, we have sanitized the whole canal in the village, by removing all the waste products from it,” a local resident said.

Pertinently, other areas of Tral have also expressed resentment over the callous attitude of Irrigation department officials and requested higher ups to look into the matter and should ensure restoration of water-bodies.
