Several policemen injured, 16 arrested for defying prohibitory orders
Bandipora, April 17: Amid strict restrictions in place, at least 16 persons were arrested, while several policemen sustained injuries on Friday ,when large number of people in Ganastan village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, who had gathered to offer Friday congregational prayers, defying the lockdown, resorted to stone pelting on Police.
Sources told CNS ,a large number of people, on Friday gathered at Jamia Masjid Ganastan to offer congregational prayers. Soon after getting tip-off regarding the unlawful assembly, police swung into action and a team of officials comprising of senior police officials and a magistrate rushed to the Spot and tried to persuad the People to obey prohibitory orders and disperse peacefully.
However, angry mob present in the mosque chanted slogans and resorted to heavy stone pelting on the police party which resulted in injuring to several cops.
Meanwhile, Police arrested at least 16 people from the spot and action under law was initiated against them.
Pertinently, several villages of Bandipora have turned out to be a hot spots in the context of COVID-19, where a good number of cases have so far tested positive for COVID-19.
Strict restrictions were already imposed ahead of Friday prayers in whole district and administration is continuously appealing the general public not to venture out from their unnecessarily and obey restriction orders issued by government.
