Srinagar, May 19: An encounter has started between government forces in Nawa Kadal area of old city Srinagar, police said.
Police sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that an encounter starter after a contact was established after a mid-night cordon was launched.
Kashmir zone police also confirmed on its twitter handle that a gunfight has started in Nawa Kadal area of city. A top police officer said that a gunfight is on in Nawa Kadal area of city.
This is after a long lull of almost two years that a gunfight has been witnessed in Srinagar.
Police sources told KNO that after initial contact and exchange of firing, an explosion took place after which there was no firing.
