Ganderbal, May 30: Jammu and Kashmir Workers Party President, Mir Junaid
greets people on the eve of Jyeshth Atham, Maa Raganya’s birthday day.
” I extend my wishes and greeting to the people on this special occasion.
May this day become a force for all of us to fight bad and evils and to
restore and look for peace and prosperity.” added Mir Junaid.
The celebrations usually used to take place in Tulmul, Ganderbal in
Kashmir. Every year Kashmiri Pandits throng the place and the day is
celebrated as Kheer Bhawani Mela.
This year due to COVID 19 lockdown, the mela has been cancelled. Mir
Junaid said that, “Praying for these times to pass for good times to come
for humankind. May She bless this land with her spirituality and make
our UT a peaceful place to live in.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Maa Raganya’s is also known as
Shankari or Shama Devi in Sri Lanka ,she came all the way from there
with Her 360 nagas when Lord Ravan and decided to reside in the
Himalayan kingdom of Satisar. She is offered kheer ( rice pudding) as
prashad. Therefore the temple is also known as Kheer Bhawani. She
resides here in kund ( pond) as Isht Devi of Kashmiri Pandits.
