A 40 year old female patient (name withheld) wife of Shabir Ahmed died at SKIMS Soura on late Tuesday night. She was suffering from Cancer but hospital authorities claimed that she was tested positive for Covid-19 as well.

As the news about her death broke in hernative village at Astan Mohalla Bijbehara, people visited her house and waitedfor the dead body. “The woman died at around 2AM and body reached in thevillage at 3 pm in the day. Locals said that Naib Tehsildar visited the village but he didn’t bother to come down from his official vehicle. “A couple of Covid deaths occurred in the district and people saw how protocol was followed in those cases. But in our village no official visited and we were nottold to follow Covid-19 protocol.”

Over 150 people without maintaining any social distance offered funeral prayers for the deceased lady. “She was laid torest just like we used to bury dead before the pandemic.”
Whole village knows that the lady was suffering from cancer and on 12 May all her 200 contacts were tested negativefor Covid-19 infection. “Majority of the people didn’t buy official version andthus ignored protocol,” said a local.
“May be people would have followed protocolif any official would have visited the village.”   District
