Ganderbal, June 06: Birds of Kashmir on Friday participated in an event organized by Sindh Division Ganderbal of J&K Forest department in collaboration with School for Rural Development and Environment (SRDE) to celebrate World Environmental Day’ themed ‘Preserve & promote Biodiversity for sustenance’ at Naranag, a part of Wangath Wildlife Conservation Reserve and a tourist destination in Ganderbal district
Regarding the importance of the day, DFO Sindh Forest Division Ganderbal Mr. Ovais Mir said that the year 2020 began with an environmental crisis, revealing itself in a disturbing manner.
He said besides coronavirus pandemic, locust attack across Africa and India act as a reminder that human health is linked to the plant health.
Chairperson and Founder J&K RTI Movement Dr Shaikh Ghulam Rasool who also heads School for Rural Development and Education(SRDE) was also present on that occasion and shared his work experience of protecting the environment.
He said reason behind celebration of World Environment day is to remind people living on earth, How important is to live friendly with Nature and Biodiversity.
“Every life on earth is important as human life is. We need to care for nature and nature will take care of us”, he said.
Birds of Kashmir, a group of bird lovers was also invited and it’s founder Mr. Irfan Jeelani along with some of it’s members were present on the said event.
Sharing his achievements and ambition of Birds of Kashmir he said, “We want to create an environmentally concern society and Birds of Kashmir is one such step in this process”.
“Join our group and let it grown”, he added.
As part of World Environment Day, mass awareness and cleanliness drive were also taken into an account.
Prominent wildlifer and conversationist of J&K Mr Mansoor Nabi Sofi widely known as Salim Ali of Kashmir also participated in this event and shared his work of wildlife projects and expeditions.
Team Birds of Kashmir and Team SRDE discussed about the future plans of wildlife expeditions and other works related to biodiversity.
At last everybody took a pledge to adhere sustainable use of natural resources, Conserve water, Wildlife, birdlife, Aquatic life, insect life and plant life.
-Restore forests and wetlands
-Promote organic agriculture and conservation base livelyhoods
-Reuse and reduce the waste and awre Communities toward Nature conservation: as Communities are key to Conservation, Restoration and preservation.
“Every individual must now fundamentally rethink his relationship with the living world, natural ecosystem, and its biodiversity”, they said.
Various wildlifers, nature lovers along with a film maker from EMRC department of University of Kashmir Mr. Abdul Rahid who has won several awards for his environment realted documentaries were also present in the event.
