Srinagar, June 28: Family of former lawmaker of north Kashmir’s Langate constituency Er Rashid on Sunday appealed authorities to release him on compassionate grounds in wake of surge in Covid-19 caseloads in Tihar. It also said that the silence of Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah over scrapping of Article 370 and issuing of domicile certificates to non-locals is “criminal”.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), family said after abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 dozens of mainstream political leaders have been taken into ‘preventive custody’ among former MLA Langate Er Rashid was one of them.
It said after months when situation across J&K started limping back to normalcy, authorities initiated the process of setting detained mainstream political leaders free but unfortunately former legislator Er Rashid happens to be still behind bars in Tihar, New Delhi.
Sheikh Abrar, son of Er Rashid while speaking to KNS, castigated authorities for not releasing his father. He questioned why Er Rashid is not being released or shifted to Kashmir when almost every political leader has been allowed to walk home.
“The approach of authorities towards my father is highly condemnable. He has still languishing in Tihar when almost all mainstream political detunes are released”, Abrar said.
Maintaining silence by Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah over the stripping of Article 370 last year and subsequently issuing domicile certificates to non-Kashmiri’s, Abrar criticized Abdullah’s over not raising voice against the alarming issues and termed it “criminal”.
He also criticized those who used Er Rashid as ‘Dramebaaz’ and challenged them to raise voice against the decisions taken on August last year.
He added that my father always lived a down to earth life and raised voice for common people which ultimately landed him in Tihar.
Meanwhile Er Rashid’s father Khazir Mohammad said that the spike in Corona virus in Tihar jail has mentally tormented them and they are apprehensive about Er Rashid’s health.
He appealed Central and UT governments to either release his son or shift him to any jail in Kashmir.
