Ganderbal, June 24: Amid Covid-19 pandemic, illegal constructions go unabated in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district with concerned authorities watching as mute spectators.
Sources said that over two dozen illegal structures have come up in Sub Division Kangan including Tehsil Gund from past two months.
Sources told news agency KNT that in violation of RD Act (barring any construction within 50 feet from Highway), illegal constructions have been raised in Ganiwan, Cherwan, Mamer, Kullan, Gund and other areas of Kangan.
The locals alleged a nexus between concerned authorities and violators.
The residents of these areas said that despite Revenue, Flood Control and Fisheries officials frequently visiting these areas, illegal constructions are going on unabated in the district for the reasons better known to officials at helm of affairs.
Questioning the silence of concerned authorities, the residents alleged that despite several complaints, the illegal constructions have been going on along Srinagar-Leh Highway and near Nallah Sindh.
“Authorities concerned should intervene and take action against the persons indulging in illegal constructions as officials are not taking any action against the defaulters,” they added.
The locals of Tehsil Gund told KNT that Tehsildar Gund along with Patwari concerned are not taking any action against the violators thus raising many questions.
Sources said that recently a Patwari was suspended for hiding facts about these illegal constructions in his jurisdiction at Cherwan Kangan.
“Following inputs about illegal construction at Cherwan, SDM Kangan taking serious note of it immediately suspended concerned Patwari for hiding the details,” sources said.
However to the utter surprise of everyone, the building has been raised again and completed.
Meanwhile locals of Sub Division Kangan have sought personal intervention of Lieutenant Governor and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir in this regard.
