Contracts being allotted to non-functional units
Sumbal, 27 June: Mechanical Irrigation Division Shadipora has allegedly become a hub of corruption, where public funds are of being looted in the name of maintenance and repair works.
Sources told CNS that the officials at the division are kind to a few contractors, who take away the works, without having an operational unit to conduct these works.
They said that the officials at the division are hand in glove with these contractors and are misappropriating big amounts, in the name of contracts on inflated rates.
“Not only this, but ironically the works are being done, even before tenders are floated”, the sources said.
They said, “No doubt these handful contractors are registered with the department, but ironically their units are either non-existent or non-functional”, they said.
“Since the contractors do not have any working facility of their own to conduct the allotted works, they get these works done through subletting these to others, which is against the rules,” said the sources.
Meanwhile, locals have demanded that administration takes the cognizance of ongoing large scale bungling in the division and get these investigated done through Crime branch or Anti Corruption Bureau.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer MID Shahdipora, Tassaduq Hussain, while refuting the allegations said that the division has not floated any contract for any works, since April this year.
He said, “After April 2020, we have adopted e-tendering system for the allotting the tenders and during one such post April e-tendering we found that some of the documents fake, which are being investigated.”
