Srinagar, 05 June: This year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Lockdown an awareness programme regarding World Environment day was held via tele conference In which different Social activists from NGO’S and other spheres of life participated and highlighted the need and importance of Environment and its protection.
The theme of World Environment Day 2020 was “Celebrate Biodiversity”.
“With one million species facing extinction, there has never been a more important time to focus on biodiversity.”
Speakers talked about the need and importance of maintaining Ecological balance and biodiversity for the continuation of life on planet earth.
While Speaking On The Occasion noted Environmental expert and Chairman National Society for the Protection of Water Resources, Wetlands and Forests J&K Mr Nazir be Nazir said that nothing can sustain without environment and one must do all it needs to preserve environment by all means and on all fronts.
Mr Rahi Riyaz Ahmed Chairman Ahsan Foundation J&K stressed upon the fact that continuity of life depends on environment and forests play a vital role in maintaining the ecological and environmental balance therefore the conservation of forests will ensure sustainable environment and its resources. Mr Rahi said “that plants are the life saving resources and planting more and more trees will improve the quality of air and life thereof” .
Senior Programme Manager JKVHA Mr A K Wani said in his speech that World Environment Day is observed through out the world to sensitise the people living in the world to keep their surroundings clean and attractive by planting the trees particularly the ornamental plants, flowers etc along with cleanliness.The Lockdown has proved that the big rivers like Ganga and Brahamputra can be kept clean by the efforts of the people. We can control any virus by good environment to a greater extent.The good environment makes ourselves conscious about standard of living as well.
