SRINAGAR, July 28: The Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of its veteran and senior-most leader Haji Abdul Rehman Lone of Ganderpora, Eidgah, who was also the halqa president of Safa Kadal, Srinagar for more than 50 years.
In a statement, the AAC said, “Late Haji Abdul Rehman Lone was associated with the organisation and the movement since day one. He worked with Mahaajir-e-Millat Mufasir-e-Qur’an Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Yousuf Shah (RA) under the banner of Muslim Conference, then served the Awami Action Committee under the leadership of Mirwaiz Moulana Farooq (RA) and worked shoulder to shoulder with thShaheed-e-Millat till he achieved martyrdom. Then with the present head of AAC Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, he rendered immense services to the organisation by carrying forward its programmes in his area.”
Due to his deep association with the Awami Action Committee, Haji Abdul Rehman Lone has faced jails several times, the AAC said, adding that the demise has created a big political, religious and social void.
The AAC paid rich tributes to Late Haji Abdul Rehman Lone for his sincere and selfless contribution towards the Awami Action Committee and his deep association with the Mirwaiz Family for more than half a century.
The organisation’s delegation led by Muhammad Shafi Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, and Ghulam Qadir Beigh and AAC’s district and local presidents besides a number of activists and hundreds of people participated in the funeral prayers.
