AAC said that from July 13, 1931 till today, people of Jammu & Kashmir have rendered numerous sacrifices of life and limb incarcerations and arrests to fulfill the great mission of the martyrs and continue to do so.
Notwithstanding the long period of over seven decades, the Kashmir Issue is still lingering, awaiting resolution and the dispute continues to be the bone of contention and hostility between the two neighbouring countries – India and Pakistan, AAC said.
“Not only does the non resolution of the issue pose continuous threat to peace in the region and an atmosphere of uncertainty , but the clouds of war keep hovering over the whole (South Asian) region due to this unresolved dispute,” it said.
The AAC further said that due to lingering Kashmir Issue, the loss of lives continues not only within J&K but also at LoC where tremendous loss of lives and properties are witnessed on almost daily basis.
Due to the non resolution of this issue issue thousands of political leaders, youth, civil society members and others continue to be arrested and kept in jails or under house arrest,” the organisation said.
The people of Jammu & Kashmir once again make it clear that they categorically reject oppose all the steps the government, in the garb of Covid-19, is taking to change the the demographic character of the State, the statement said, adding that for lasting peace and progress in the whole South Asia, the resolution to Kashmir Issue – as per the wishes and aspirations of its people – is inevitable.
The statement added, “Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee since its inception has been commemorating the significant day of July 13, 1931 with its founder Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq (RA) and the present head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paying rich tributes to the great martyrs and highlighting the need for resolving the Kashmir Issue through tripartite dialogue and deliberations “
This year due to Covid-19 pandemic and the house arrest of the organisations head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq nearing a year now, the congregational tributes and march to Martyrs’ Graveyard to pay tributes to July 13, 1931 martyrs is cancelled.
