Bandipora, July 16: A day long cleanliness cum ‘Environmental Awareness Drive’ was conducted jointly by J&K Students Welfare Mission in collaboration with Bandipora Eco – Watch supported by District Panchayat Officer, Bandipora, SHO Ajas, GHSS Ajas, Civil Society Ajas, Elixir Garden School Aloosa, Alim Adab Aab Foundation Bandipora and other senior citizens of Ajas Bandipora.
A good number of volunteers, green enthusiasts, senior citizens and officials participated in the said drive.
The drive started with mass awareness about environmental responsibility and solid waste management.
During the drive solid wastes, polythene bags, plastics, junk food wrappers etc were collected in various areas of Ajas, in a form of a rally to spread message for green consciousness among locals and proper disposal of the waste and garbage was ensured, with support from District Panchayat Officer Bandipora, SHO Ajas and CIvil Society Ajas.
Pertinent to mention is that senior citizens of the village and other adjacent areas also took part in the said drive, who aspire to adopt the said drive practically and also participated in the collection of the waste from polluted vicinity with their own hands.
They appreciated the initiative taken by these organizations jointly and expressed their hope that such programmes continue in future so in order to get rid of this poisonous plastic cum polythene menace from the area..
During the awareness session, importance of OFD, single use of plastics, anti – polythene drives etc were highlighted by the programme organizers.
Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, Chairman, JKSWM Advisory Board, Dr. Bilal Sarwar told that to gear up the spirit of environment enthusiasm and to safeguard environment with particular focus on Wullar Lake, J&K Students Welfare Mission in collaboration with Bandipora, Eco-Watch and Wildlife Conservation Fund are running ‘Go Green Bandipora’, Wullar Lake Conservation Project and Baba Shukur din RA Eco Restoration Project in District Bandipora to address the green need of the surrounding.
The vote of thanks was presented to Mr. Qaiser Ahmad, SHO Ajas, Mr. Khazir Mohammad Malik, Principal, GHSS Ajas, Chairman Civil Society Forum Ajas K.M Kamal , and other social activists and all volunteers and members of JKSWM and other organizations who made this event a grand success by actively participating in the said drive.
