Srinagar, July 11: Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has come down heavily on those who are advocating lock-down in Kashmir valley in wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
“Why lock-down is only for shopkeepers? Parks have been thrown open and even there are no restrictions on Amarnath Yatra. Only shopkeepers are made to suffer and those who are advocating this lockdown have vested interests,” Chief Spokesperson KTMF told news agency KNT.
He said that there is virtually no economic activity in Kashmir since August 2019 and now when shopkeepers have started earning their living; some people in order to appease their bosses are advocating lockdown. “There is no lockdown in Jammu and in other cities of India where Coronavirus case are on tremendous rise,” he said.
KTMF has appealed government particularly Srinagar administration not to re-impose lockdown as it will add to the hardships of people especially traders.
“We have to take precautionary measures. We should wear masks; maintain social distance and use sanitizers but lockdown at this juncture will prove disastrous for traders and common people who have no means of survival.
Meanwhile, Sher-e-Khass traders have also appealed LG administration not to re-impose lockdown in Srinagar city.
“We are following SOPs and Guidelines issued by Government and there is no need to re-impose lockdown. It will hit traders badly,” the traders of Old City said.
