Sopore, July 02: A 260 metre long bridge built over six decades ago in north kashmir’s sopore collapsed on Wednesday late evening.
The bridge was build in 1955 over river jhelum at chankhan area of sopore which connects sopore town to Srinagar and baramulla districts
and the bridge was build in tenure of Then prime minister Ghulam Muhammad Bakhshi and was primary known as Bakhshi bridge
An official from R&B department from sopore said the bridge was declared unsafe for traffic in 1999.” After that the bridge was used only by pedestrians but too are barred in last year 2019 after the bridge develop some cracks.
