Sonmarg-Zojila highway closed for traffic
Shopian, Aug 27: Amid rains the Mughal road was Thursday opened for traffic after remaining closed for some time in wake of incessant rains, officials said.
The traffic on the 84-km mountainous road, connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir’s Shopian was made through while around 65 stranded light motor vehicles were allowed to move from Heerpora Shopian towards Rajouri.
“We have started one way traffic from this side (Shopian) and allowed 65 light motor vehicles, mostly carrying essential items to move towards Rajouri,” an official told KNT.
He said the traffic will ply alternatively from Shopian and Rajouri side till the road is made worthy for two-way traffic.
Meanwhile, due to incessant rains, traffic was stopped on Sonamarg- Zojila Highway as a precautionary measure.
An official said that no vehicle was allowed to ply on the road. Reports said that drivers on way to Ladakh parked their vehicles in Sonmarg.
