Protest: Casual labourers from Tourism Deptt demand release of wages

Srinagar, Aug 25: Casual labourers from Tourism Department Tuesday staged a protest demanding release of wages in their favour.

A large number of casual labourers from Tourism Department headed by Qaisar Ahmed assembled in the premises of Directorate of Tourism Department here in Srinagar and raised slogans against the government as well as the department.

The protesting casual labourers said they have been waiting for the release of their wages since July 2014.

“We have been facing immense problems. We are unable to take care of our families. Despite working hard for the department we are being deprived from our hard earned wages,” the protesters told news agency KNT.

The protesters said that Tourism Department have uploaded the names of 342 casual labourers on its website but ironically only 14 are getting wages.

“We vehemently appeal to Lieutenant Governor of the erstwhile State to intervene into the matter,” they said adding if their wages are not released they will hit to roads along with their families.

They said they will continue to protest for three days.
