Roads in Aarath Budgam submerged under the water
Locals accuse R&B department for their plight and ignoring the area
Budgam, August 30: With whatever roads, without any repair or macadamization they have, people of Aarath in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, after the recent spell of rainfall, are these days wading through water to travel from one place to another within the village and to other destinations.
A group of people from Aarath village told news agency KDC that due to the callousness of Roads and Buildings department all the roads in the village and also the connecting road to district headquarter Budgam is a in a pathetic condition, which has made the life of locals miserable.
A local Mohammad Ramzan Mir said, “Whole network of roads in the village is in shambles as it has not seen any repair for last 20 years.”
“With the passage of time the roads have eroded to the level where with a small amount of rainfall, these get submerged, resulting in the blockade of passage”, he added.
Another local Abdul Salam Bhat said that the road was made 20 years ago, but never was any repair undertaken or macadamization done on it.
“During the PDP BJP rule, when Nayeem Akhtar was the Works Minister, he visited the area and promised the repair and macadamization of the roads, but that promise was also never fulfilled”, he added.
“Now the situation has reached to appoint that in case of rains, the whole road network of the area gets submerged under the water, forcing people to wade through deep waters to move from one place to another”, said another local Abdul Gani Dar.
“Most affected lot is our children, who face enormous difficulties to reach to their school or to attend the tutorials”
The locals accused R&B division Budgam of callousness towards the upkeep of the road network in their area and accused the officials of the department of ignoring the area since a period of two decades.
They added that the department has failed in providing better road network in the district in general and Aarath village in particular.
The locals requested the LG administration to take the note of their plight and come to their rescue by issuing orders to the R&B authorities to repair the road and macadamize it at the earliest, so that they get respite from immense difficulties, they are faced with because of the adverse condition of roads in Aarath and its adjacent areas.
