Srinagar, August 05: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and general secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura on has termed August 5 as the most gruesome chapter of Kashmir history, reiterating that the breach of trust done by the government of India has belittled to the core the democratic institutions of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, Hanjura said that one year down the line when the identity of the people here was eroded through an undemocratic and unconstitutional measure, the people of Kashmir are in the midst of dystopian nightmare with all their aspirations being muzzled and their wishes left in tatters.
He said that Kashmir valley ever since August 5, 2019, has seen a worst-ever the military crackdown on its people and political leadership and government’s dreadful policies are only giving the impression of a military coup, making democracy and free speech thing of a past.
Hanjura said that the move to scrap Article 370 and Article 35A was in violation of all the commitments made to the people of J&K and the repeated decisions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India that these Articles and the special status of J&K had attained finality. But unfortunately, said Hanjura, the Parliament disregarded everything that had happened in that very institution and betrayed a people of Jammu and Kashmir in an absolutely sadistic manner.
He added that the bizarre measures like keeping the internet gagged and perturbing the students and business fraternity are bound to fail and that the world will become assiduous towards the hardships the people here have been exposed to.
