Ganderbal, Sep 03: Amid attempts from China to change status quo in Pangong Lake, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway is continuously witnessing increased troop movement and vehicles transporting artillery towards Ladakh.

Reports reaching the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that since Monday morning, a large number of Army vehicles carrying troops and other artillery were seen moving towards Ladakh through Srinagar-Leh highway.

The increased troop movement has, however, resulted in the frequent interruption of the civilian traffic movement, the locals said, adding that the civilian traffic movement on the highway was stopped on Monday to give easy passage to the Army convoys moving towards Ladakh.

However, the civilian traffic including trucks and other passenger vehicles were permitted to move on Tuesday, officials said.

They said that movement of troops has increased from the last couple of days. “A large number of Army vehicles could be seen plying towards Ladakh through this road on every day,” the locals said.

Notably, Army Chief MM Naravane on Thursday reached Leh as part of a two-day visit to review the operational preparedness in the Ladakh region. The visit comes in the backdrop of the fresh skirmishes between Indian and Chinese soldiers at Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh
