Demands separate package for transport workers, drivers
Srinagar, September 20: Kashmir Constructional Workers Union and All J&K Joint Masons, Carpenters,Painters, Plumbers, Electricians and Labour Union welcomed the Rs 1,350 crore relief package for Jammu and Kashmir announced by Lieutenant Governor on Saturday.
Ab Rashid Pandit President Kashmir Construction workers Union (KCWU) and Bashir Ahmad Bashir President, All J&K Joint Masons, Carpenters, Painters,Plumbers, Electricians and Labour Union said the announcement will bring relief for businessmen struggling with economic problems in Jammu and Kashmir.
Announcement of the economic package of Rs 1,350 crore for Jammu and Kashmir will be a big relief to the business and labour communities struggling with the economic distress due to continuous lock down since August 2019 followed by subsequent lockdown due to pandemic in March 2020.
It has been said that one lac forty thousand transport workers including drivers etc would be benefited from this package by registering with the Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board of Labour Department and will be provided with Rs 1000 each in DBT mode for a period of six months. Since this money comes from cess meant only for poor construction labourers and not for other categories. It would be a burden on the construction board and will create problems for the real construction workers.
We appeal to the administration that these drivers may be provided separate relief out of other resources through JK Relief Fund.
