Sumbal, Sep 7: The failure of Power Development Department to install a transformer from past one month sparked a protest in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district while dozens of females from Shahgund area of the district blocked Sumbal-Sopore road alleging that despite repeated requests to PDD failed to install electric transformer in Shahgund village.
The protesters chanting anti-PDD slogans outside PDD office Sumbal and blocked the road leaving scores of vehicles stranded for over two hours.
The protesting females told KNT that due to non-availability of power all of them especially the students are facing the brunt.
Later a team of civil administration and police reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The protesters though dispersed peacefully after the assurances given by the officials, threatened to hit again on the roads in case transformer is not installed within a day or two.
