Family alleges medical negligence, stages protest, ‘damages’ hospital property

 

Baramulla, Sep 06:  The family members of a pregnant lady, who allegedly died due to medical negligence, on Sunday held a protest against the hospital administration in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the family members raised slogans against the hospital authorities of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla and also damaged the hospital property.

The family members alleged that the lady and her new born baby died due to the medical negligence of hospital authorities.

They said that she died two days after her new born baby died at Srinagar hospital due to medical negligence. The deceased as per the protesting family was identified as Asmat Farooq (19), wife of Hilal Ahmad Shah of Peernia area of Boniyar.

Father of the deceased lady told KNO that her daughter was admitted to the hospital on September 3rd due to severe infection. “During treatment at GMC Baramulla, she was diagnosed with IUD of her six months fetus, due to which severe infection was caused in her body and doctors removed the infectious fetes to save her. But unfortunately they couldn’t save her,” he said.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla, Dr. Masood Ahmad said that they have approached the concerned police station and have registered a complaint in this regard against the family for damaging the hospital property.

He further stated that after registering the complaint, police has started investigation and assured strict action.
