Jammu, Sep 3: Sikh community Thursday staged a protest in Jammu against the exclusion of Punjabi from the J&K Official Languages Bill.
A large number of Sikhs carrying banners hit to roads in Jammu and threatened to launch an agitation if Punjabi is not made part of official language list in Jammu and Kashmir.
TS Wazir, Chairman J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board told KNT over phone that government has completely neglected Punjab language which till three decades ago was a compulsory subject in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said Sikh community won’t remain silent and will launch agitation if Punjabi language is ignored and not included in official language list.
The representatives from various Sikh organizations, including Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Shiromani Akali Dal, Sikh Welfare Front, Sikh Intellectual Circle J&K, International Sikh Federation, Sikh Students Federation and Sikh Nojwan Sabha participated in the protest.
