Despite rich in water resources, people beg for power supply in Kashmir

Deadline March 31, Govt yet to implement R-APDRP in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 11: Despite being rich in water resources, people in Kashmir are being deprived of power supply. Every winter they start begging for the uninterrupted power supply but in return get a formal ‘power-cut schedule’. The unfortunate part is that authorities violate the same ‘power-cut schedule’ and never supply power as per the ‘Schedule’.

With the onset of winter, the unscheduled power cuts have increased significantly adding to hardships of people.
“Till recently ‘supplying power’ to people used to be part of election manifesto of every political party in Kashmir. In developed countries, political parties talk of creating colonies in other planets but in Kashmir ‘roads, power and water’ adorn election manifestos,” said a doctor to KNT.
Previous Governor when Kashmir was still enjoying the Special Status had claimed that people of Kashmir will get uninterrupted power supply. Some of the leading news papers gave that ‘misleading’ statement much hype and adorn it on front page with the color photograph of that controversial Governor.
From North to South and Central, everywhere frequent power cuts are haunting people. “Earlier, people used to hit roads demanding electricity but now they have lost hope in bureaucratic government. They prefer to rue power shortage in private rather than beat their chests in public,” said a trader.
A local from Mandar Bagh Srinagar told KNT that employees at Receiving Station told them that everything is under control of those who are not natives of Valley and they are helpless and can’t do anything.
“When Power Development Department installed the meters, it promised 24 hours uninterrupted power supply, but that promise was never fulfilled.”
