DDC polls: Second phase of DDC elections sees 48.62 per cent voter turnout in J-K

Srinagar, 01 Dec: Around 48.62 per cent polling was recorded during the second phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. As many as 1,427 candidates are in the fray with over fifty seven lakh voters casting their ballots,Officials said.

The voter turnout, according to politicians and experts, is an improvement, given the security situation and the past record of election boycotts. The 2014 J&K assembly polls had seen one of the highest polling percentages — 56 per cent — while the 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw a turnout of only 19 per cent, the lowest in two decades.

An official told news agency—Fast Kashmir (FK)that 48.62℅ polling was rerecorded in the second phase of District Development Council (DDC)elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday,with Poonch district recording the highest turnout of 75.07℅ and Pulwama the lowest at 8.76℅.

He added the polling went off peacefully and there was no incident of violence and disturbance.

According to news agency Fast Kashmir 33.34℅ voting was recorded in Kashmir while 65.54℅ polling recorded in Jammu.

As per the figures given by the office of state election commissioner,Kashmir Division,
Kupwara recorded a voting percentage of 58.69℅, Pulwama 8.76℅, Baramulla 28.95℅, Kulgam 29.90℅, Shopain 17.28℅, Anantnag 16.09℅, Bandipora 69.66℅, Ganderbal 49.14℅, Srinagar 33.78℅ and Budgam 43.51℅.

Similarly, in Jammu division, Kishtwar recorded a voting percentage of 61.64%, Doda .63.80℅, Ramban 66.23%, Reasi 69.27%, Udhampur 62.51%, Kathua 60.10%, Samba 66.38%, Jammu 69.97%, Rajouri 60.21% and Poonch 75.07%.

Meanwhile,the J&K election commission KK Sharma has prohibited the conduct of any exit poll and publishing/displaying of the result of exit poll by means of the print or electronic media or in any other manner till the last phase of the elections.

Pertinently,it is mention to that this was the first election in the J&K after the effective abrogation of Article 370 by the central government on August 5, 2019, amid massive security and communication clampdown in the erstwhile state.

Moreover,the results will be declared on Dec 22.
