Srinagar, other plains receive season’s first snowfall, cold nights ahead for Kashmir

Srinagar, 12 Dec: Most of the plain areas in Kashmir received the season’s first snowfall on Saturday while the higher reaches witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall during the last 15 hours. The Srinagar-Leh and Srinagar-Jammu highways remained closed.

Kashmir Weather, an independent weather forecaster, forecasted of mainly dry weather from today onward till 21st December.

“The minimum temperatures are likely to fall in the upcoming days, one or two more Western Disturbances are expected but they will be weak and will only result in cloudy weather.”, he said.

As per him, Srinagar recorded around 3 inches of snowfall, Gulmarg 1ft, Tangmarg 3-4 inches, Sonamarg 10 inches, Gund 5 inches, Kangan 4 inches and Ganderbal main 2 inches.

In Budgam District, he said, Khag received 6-7 inches of snowfall while Beerwah, Khansahib, Chadoora and Charisharief recorded 4 to 5 inches and Budgam, Magam, Narbal and B. K pora recorded 2 to 3 inches of snowfall.
Tourist resort of Yusmarg and other upper reaches in district Budgam also received several inches of fresh snowfall since last night.

In Bandipora district, he said Dawar recorded 12 inches of snowfall, Kanzalwan 13 inches, Razdan top 18 inches, Kudara 8 inches, Surender 7 inches, Athwatoo 8 inches, Bandipora town 2 inches.

He said, Jawahar Tunnel recorded around 6inches of snowfall, Pulwama 1 to 2 inches, Pahalgam 4 inches, Aishmuqam 3 inches, Dooru, Qazigund and Verinag 1 to 2 inches.

He said, in Kishtwar district, Marwah received around 6-7 icnhes of snowfall, Warwan 8-9 inches, Machail 7 inches, Ishtyari 4-5 inches
Kishtwar, Padder and Dachan 3-4 inches.

In district Kulgam, Aharbal recorded around 10 inches of snowfall, Manzgam 8 inches, D.H Pora 6 inches, Malwan 5 inches, Kulgam main 4 inches, Kund 8 inches, he added.

He also added, in Kargil district Panikhar recorded around 12inches of snowfall, Zanskar 2 inches, Kargil/Wakha 1inch, Chiktan 4 inches, Barsoo 4 inches, Minamarg 7 inches, Rangdum 5 inches, Drass and Sankoo 4 inches.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 1.7 degrees Celsius and Gulmarg minus 4.0 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 0.2 degrees Celsius, Kokernag minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, Kupwara minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, Leh town minus 6.4 degrees Celsius and Kargil minus 3.0 degrees Celsius.

Jammu city recorded 10.9 degrees Celsius, Katra 8.6 degrees Celsius, Batote minus 0.7 degrees Celsius, Banihal 0.2 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah town witnessed minus 0.4 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature.
