Srinagar, Jan 16: Border Roads Organisation on Saturday warned against allowing vehicles carrying more than 40 tons of load on Bailey Bridge, saying that same will endanger it.
The Bridge was put to trial run at 2.45 p.m. on Saturday and traffic was allowed to pass in a regulated manner after giving some final touches and verification.
The 40 ton Bailey bridge was constructed by BRO team within 60 hours, well ahead of 72 hour deadline set by NHAI, Engineer BRO, Brigadier IK Jaggi, said.
“The Load capacity is 40 tons including the weight of the vehicle. People have to be very very careful. Overloaded trucks or vehicles carrying more than 40 tons of weights will endanger this bridge,” he told reporters after the trial run was carried this afternoon, as per GNS correspondent.
“All of us, Commandant, Dixit and OC, Khera and me stayed at the site to supervise the work day and night,” he said.
Asked about the challenges, he said there were various constraints including weather, space, and getting material. “Too many people are coming to see something is happening. There was no space to work. But then we face these challenges and move on,” he said, adding, “One of the challenges initially was to get source together and we had to manage it from four to five different locations from different parts of Kashmir and Kishtwar district in as many as 30 trucks.”
