SMA Condemns The Act, Demands legal action against the official
Sopore, 01 Jan: A north Kashmir based photojournalist Peerzada Tahir on Friday alleged that he was manhandled by an official at Sub District Hospital Sopore while discharging his professional duty.
According to an eyewitness, they told, an official came towards the said media personal and misbehaved and manhandled him.
Doctor and two security guards came and Manhandled him, they added
While talking with the Peerzada Tahir, he said, “I was discharging my professional duty at Sub District Hospital Sopore this morning and suddenly a Doctor namely Ab Hameed Khan who is a physician there dragged me by my collar and told me not to cover an story,”.
“I, in a professional manner told him to leave my collar as I’m on duty, in the meantime two hospital security guards came and dragged me out, Peerzada said”.
When contacted to Block Medical Officer BMO Sopore Dr.Asif Khanday, he said, “I’m on leave and don’t know about this incident, I will look into this matter further”, he added.
Meanwhile when contacted with Dr Abdul Hameed Khan,he said, I didn’t recognize the person, and later on he told me that I’m a media person.
“I went to the casualty where an patient was admitted and I attended him in the meantime a person starts capturing photos of a patient and i told him to leave this ward as it’s casualty and you can’t enter this ward without authorities permission”,
Meanwhile Sopore Media Association strongly condemns the act and demands legal action against the official.
In a statement issued by Sopore Media Association, strongly condemns manhadling and misbehaviour by a doctor Abdul Hameed Khan with photojournalist Peerzada Tahir while he was discharging his professional duty at Sopore Hosipital.
Members of association called it a bizarre act by sopore hospital administration and appeals to respect the values of a journalist, it reads.
President of the Assocation said that day by day attacks on press is unacceptable in any manner in the line of duty. He appeals the hospital authorities to look into this matter and demands to take a strong action in this regard so that it could not happen with any of its members in future, statement ends.
