R&B, SMC surrender abefore snow furry No snow clearance on roads

Srinagar, Jan 5: Authorities on Tuesday ‘surrendered’ before snow furry as neither R&B nor SMC were seen on the ground clearing the roads with snow. Ironically, Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation told KNT that snow clearance on the roads is the job of Roads and Buildings Department.

Roads across Kashmir Valley particularly in Kashmir capital Srinagar are accumulated with snow. Due to slippery conditions, vehicles are unable to ply on the roads. Not speaking of interior roads even roads in city centre Lal Chowk have not been cleared.

“We will clear the roads once snowfall stops. Till then it is extremely difficult for ‘SMC warriors’ to clear the roads,” said an SMC official.

Normal life was completely disrupted on third consecutive day as the Srinagar Municipal Corporation miserably failed to remove the accumulated snow from the roads of various localities here.

People said that presence of snow on roads barred people and vehicles to ply on the roads.

“I saw a tractor clearing a road in Mehjoor Nagar area but even that didn’t help drivers to ply smoothly on the said road,” said a local.

Some shopkeepers who have opened their shops in Central Market Abi Guzar told KNT that no machine was pressed into service in the locality to clear the snow from roads.

It has been snowing and roads are accumulated with snow with authorities having no option but to wait for the stoppage of snow furry.
