Qazigund, Feb 16: At least 4 cows and a buffalo died of suffocation in a cowshed owned by a farmer in South Kashmir’s Qazigund area.
Local sources told KNT that the deaths at the cow-shed came to light on Tuesday morning when the owner Ali Muhammad Gorsi opened the door of the shed to feed them and found five cattle flat on the ground.
The incident occurred at Bonibath village of Qazigund.
A police official said that prima facie it seems that cattle were locked in a room to protect them from cold, and they died of asphyxiation due to presence of a coal heater.
During winters people usually herd animals into the shed to protect them from extreme cold.
Local sources added that a team of veterinary doctors was sent to the village and autopsy revealed that the 4 cows and a buffalo had died of suffocation.
