Srinagar, Feb 7: Former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday alleged that the inhabitants of ‘Naya Kashmir can’t even question a callous administration and have been reduced to living corpses’.
Ms Mehbooba said after one Athar Mushtaq lost his son in an alleged fake encounter and was slapped with an FIR for demanding his son’s body. “His crime was to stage a peaceful protest,” the PDP president added.
“After losing his son in an alleged fake encounter, Athar Mushtaq’s father has been slapped with an FIR for demanding his dead body. His crime was to stage a peaceful protest. The inhabitants of Naya Kashmir can’t even question a callous administration & have been reduced to living corpses,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Three alleged militants — identified as Aijaz Ahmad Ganie, Ather Mushtaq from Pulwama and Zubair Ahmad Lone from Shopian – were killed in an encounter with security forces in Srinagar outskirts in December 2020. However, the families and relatives of the slain youth claimed that they were innocent and were killed in a staged encounter.
All political parties, including National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Congress, CPI(M) and Apni Party, had sought an investigation into counter allegations.
However, refuting the charges, police have maintained that the trio had links with militants.
