Srinagar, Feb 16: Jammu Kashmir Apni Party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari Tuesday day said that time is not conducive for the imposition of Property Tax in Jammu and Kashmir.

“I think whatever is being circulated and said about the Property Tax is not true. I haven’t seen any formal order in this regard. But, yes, at this stage it is not possible for the crippled economy of Kashmir to take shock and after shocks. People have already suffered heavily. There was no economic activity since 5 August 2019,” Bukhari told Reporters here in Srinagar.

Bukhari as per KNT said that he appeals to LG Manoj Sinha to put the proposal on hold if government is mulling to take a call on Property Tax. “The call of the time and the populace is to do away with this proposal, (if any) in the interest of justice and fairplay,“ he said adding that Property Tax will be unwarranted, unfair and unjustified for every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pertinently, last year in October, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha had said the government will not impose any property tax in the Union Territory.

“Let me clarify that there is no proposal to impose the property tax in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory,” Sinha had said.

A section of social media and press circulated an unauthenticated order from the Government stating that Government of Jammu and Kashmir has started an exercise for the imposition of Property Tax through Urban Local Bodies (Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees).
