Srinagar, Feb 02: Two militant associates of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were arrested along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir, official sources said on Tuesday.
Following specific information, a joint team of police and 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) arrested a militant associate alongwith three hand grenades and 10 rounds at Wular Vantage Park in Bandipora.
During questioning, the accused, identified as Abdul Majeed Khan, disclosed the name of one more accused. “A joint team of police and 52 RR raided a particular area in Sangam Sopore in Baramulla and arrested the accused, identified as Showkat Ahmad Malik,” the sources said, adding a pistol, five grenades and 20 rounds were recovered from his possession.
They said the duo was responsible for recruiting youth into militant ranks. “The accused used to influence youth with false narratives and motivating/enticing them to take violent path besides providing them arms, ammunition and other resources for this purpose.”
Police has registered a case in the incident and more arrests could happen in coming days.
