Srinagar, April 07: Police on Wednesday have arrested four persons including a police Constable accused of raping minor girl in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

In a statement to GNS, the police said that police Station Qazigund received a written complaint by a complainant stating that her daughter (name withheld) was raped by three persons at Bonigam Qazigund where a woman resident of Damjen aided them in the rape of minor girl.

The offence surfaced when during the course of a medical examination, she was found pregnant.

Upon receipt of the complaint, case with FIR No 61/2021 U/S 376D, 342, 109 IPC, 4 POCSO Act was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was initiated.

The statement further stated that All four accused, namely Zahoor Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Ahsan Mir resident of Beebrada Parigam (Retired Army man), Aejaz Ahmad Shah son of Mohd Yousf Shah resident of Cheyan Devsar, Kifayat Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Hassan Malik resident of Yaripora (A policeman) and the woman mentioned earlier were arrested.

It is pertinent to mention that during investigation it surfaced that one of the accused, SgCt Kifayat Ahmad Malik, belt No 467/Kgm was found involved and arrested promptly. The accused was not on duty when the offence was committed and neither had it been committed inside police premises. In addition to criminal proceedings, departmental proceedings have been initiated against him.

Kulgam Police assures the public that strict action will be taken against offenders, especially when they are cops, reads the statement.
