Srinagar, Apr 6: Police on Tuesday arrested five drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in two separate places in Kashmir valley.
A police spokesperson said that following specific information, police arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances and cash in Dangiwaha, Sopore.
“A case FIR has been registered in Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigation taken up,” he said.
He said a police party during patrolling on Srinagar-Jammu national highway intercepted a suspicious vehicle at Mirbazar in Kulgam. “During checking, police recovered 7.5 kilograms of poppy straw and Rs 71,790 believed to be the proceeds of narcotic crime was recovered,” he said.
He said two persons onboard the vehicle, identified as Bilal Ahmad Rah and Abdul Majeed Dar, both residents of Waghama Bijebhara, were immediately taken into custody.
“A case FIR number 65/2021 under relevant sections has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been taken up,” he said.
He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti social elements in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in anti social activities will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
