Jammu,June 27: CPI(M) Regional Secretary Jammu Sham Prasad Kesar termed the incident in which police booked eight people, including four sarpanchs, in Bhaderwah for protesting to demand road connectivity, as a brazen violation on the fundamental rights of people.
Locals of various panchayats of Bhaderwah had assembled on Bhaderwah-Pul-Doda road and blocked the road, demanding road connectivity to their panchayats. Police reportedly booked Sajid Mir Sarpanch Kulshari, Majid Khan of Amera Nagar, Anchal Singh of Kulshari, Kuldeep Kumar of Lamout Daranga (Teacher), Firdous Ahmed Butt of Kulshari, Raju Sarpanch Sungli, Yasir Sarpanch Nalthi and Ayaz Khan Sarpanch Dandi for blocking the road.
To protest peacefully is a democratic right of any citizen and it does not warrant that he should be booked and sent to jail. Such incidents can create a sense of fear among the people instead of solving their grievances. This is a brazen misuse of power and authority and such incidents violate the fundamental rights of a citizen.
I hope J&K LG Manoj Sinha ji will intervene in the matter personally and ensure that the FIR registered against these people is quashed immediately. Besides, the LG must also order the concerned authorities to look into the grievances of these people on priority and solve these immediately.
