Gaza, Jun 1: Islamist organisation Hamas has called on Palestinians to hold “a day-of-rage” protest rallies on Friday to protest against the Jewish settlements and what they describe as Israel’s occupation in the West Bank.
“We call for holding mass demonstrations and protests in all contact points [in the West Bank] against the settlers supported by the occupational government,” a statement issued by the organization read.
Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, warned that any Israeli attacks on Palestinian cities and villages, or the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, will lead to “bigger resistance and confrontation”.
This latest call comes in the backdrop of the ongoing Egypt-brokered negotiations between Israel and Hamas for a longer-term ceasefire.
The ceasefire also included the exchange of prisoners and return of dead bodies following 11-day armed hostilities in May.
